Community & Rural Growth

Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, are the main sources of income, livelihood and growth for the majority of the rural poor in developing countries. For over 35 years Hassall & Associates International has been working to promote land and water resource use practices that sustain production and productivity for future generations, providing food security, income and value adding opportunities for communities to address poverty.

We encourage participation and build the capacity of individuals, households, communities, and civil society organisations and develop ownership and commitment to processes that offer gains in productivity and rural growth and sustained essential services, while remaining sensitive to social and cultural and environmental requirements.

Our projects have included improving water supply and road access to markets from isolated villages; increasing food and cash crop productivity; micro-enterprise and income generation; improved services for health care and nutrition; improved water and sanitation facilities; improved governance structures; and improved services and facilities for education and training.

We recognise that a participatory approach in planning, implementation, and evaluation is critical to the success and sustainability of activities.
