Meet our Executive Manager, Program Management
Andrew (Andy) Gough is a model leader: an extraordinary communicator combined with extensive people and project management skills. When you meet Andy it’s hard not to like him, he has an innate ability to relate to people openly and honestly. He has applied his skills to a range of programs but using his skills in a field where he can make a difference for people is his passion.
This passion and commitment to improving people’s lot has been directed into 30 years service in the Defence Force. Within that time he has also made particular effort in international development, improving people’s lives and reducing poverty. For example, in early 2000 he led his team in the reconstruction effort of a hospital and two schools in Oecussi Enclave of East Timor. More recently he led a key Directorate in synchronizing the economic development and reconstruction activity of the coalition effort in Iraq. This involved aligning the objectives and efforts of military forces, national development effort of coalition members and attracting buy-in from the newly established government of Iraq. His impact in this regard was recognised with the award of the US Bronze Star Medal: for exceptionally meritorious conduct. The following extract from the testimonial provided by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Multi National Force in Iraq states: “Andy was able to succeed where diplomats and professional engineers had struggled. His labours improved the lot of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens by restoring essential services and critical infrastructure, an amazing feat that this far has been unbelievable to this degree in Iraq.”
The role of Executive Manager, Program Management focuses on leading the program management team and driving a process of continuous improvement to ensure our programs are managed and implemented in line with best practice project management principles. Combined with his distinguished work history, Andy holds Masters’ qualifications in Management Studies and Strategic Studies. He is also a Master Project Director within the Australian Institute of Project Managers. Andy is well suited for the position.
Andy takes over from Dr Trevor Rogers, who has successfully guided the Program Management Section since its inception in 2006. He is now undertaking the key role of Senior Program Director for programs based in Indonesia and Solomon Islands.
