Hassall & Associates
Hassall & Associates is an employee owned consulting and project management firm with a diverse portfolio of projects in Australia, Asia and the Pacific region.
Hassall & Associates Australia (HAA) has proudly provided high quality services to a diverse range of clients on agriculture, natural resource and environmental management issues within Australia and internationally. This work has contributed significantly, not only to the sustainable management of natural resources and improving the effectiveness of industry and government programs, but also to the achievement of more competitive and sustainable rural and regional industries. Following are details of the team members for this project.
Sue Salvin
Sue specialises in project management, policy analysis and stakeholder consultation and has worked in the government, non government and private sectors.
Sue has a strong background in natural resource management and considerable experience in working with landholders and with Government to resolve complex natural resource policy issues. Prior to joining Hassall & Associates, she held the position of Manager, Environmental Services with State Forests of NSW and was part of the team that developed the Environmental Services Scheme. She also represented State Forests on the NSW Government Senior Officers Salinity Team which developed the NSW Salinity Strategy. For three years prior to that, she was Director, Conservation and Resource Management with the NSW Farmers’ Association. She represented NSW Farmers on the Committee that developed the NSW Sustainable Agriculture Policy and was a member of the Board of Greening Australia (NSW).
Sue has also worked for a number of other State Government Departments including Sydney Water and Public Works and as an environmental consultant to National Power Australasia.
Since joining Hassall & Associates, Sue has been responsible for the successful delivery of a number of high profile projects including:
- the review of Phase 1 of the Natural Heritage Trust;
- the delivery of a series of twelve regional workshops for the Australian Greenhouse Office as part of their Forest Sink and Regional NRM Support Program; and
- the management of the Australian Government’s Pathways to Industry EMS Program.
Sue holds an honours degree in Environmental Science, and her work has been published in a range of national and international journals, conference proceedings, book chapters and professional newsletters.
She is based in Sydney.

Ingrid Roth (Christiansen)
Ingrid specialises in program planning, evaluation, knowledge and learning systems and adoption pathways in rural communities and industries. She is an experienced facilitator with good technical understanding of agricultural production, natural resource management, social dynamics and research.
Ingrid brings background experience working with rural industry networks, extension groups, researchers, government agencies and NRM associations. Prior to joining Hassall & Associates, Ingrid worked as the National Extension Coordinator for the Australian Cotton Cooperative Research Centre, led an environmental extension program for the sugar industry with the Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations and worked in a research role with the then Queensland Department of Primary Industries in saline land rehabilitation and erosion control.
Ingrid has a Bachelor of Science (Hons 1st Class) and a Masters of Rural Systems Management, both from the University of Queensland and Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
She is based in Narrabri.
Ingrid is the principal researcher for the project and will be in close contact with many regional NRM bodies.

Lee-Anne Molony
Lee-Anne specialises in project management and has worked in government, non government and private sectors in Australia and internationally. She brings experience in planning for biodiversity conservation, management of large donor-funded programs and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Lee-Anne was recently involved in evaluating the Integrating Farming Systems into Landscapes Program for DPI Victoria. Prior to joining Hassall & Associates in 2007, Lee-Anne worked with the Bangladesh Department of Environment in conservation management planning, managed donor-funded programs in developing countries for Cardno Acil and taught at the National Economics University, Hanoi, Vietnam. Between 1999 and 2000 Lee-Anne undertook environmental impact assessment, vegetation surveys, pest species management and an assessment of the Northern Tablelands wild dog fence, for the NSW NPWS. She has also conducted revegetation trials for Greening Australia.
Lee-Anne holds an honours degree in Economics and a Graduate Diploma in Natural Resources, from the University of New England, Armidale.

Jacqueline Knowles
Having worked previously in policy roles for the NSW Irrigators’ Council and the NSW Farmers’ Association, Jack has a keen understanding of natural resource management policy, and strong skills in working with government, communities and landholders on resource management matters.
With Hassall & Associates, Jack has contributed to numerous projects including the Review of NHT Phase 1. She assisted the NSW Natural Resources Commission in its assessment of draft Catchment Action Plans for compliance with investor preferences, including the NSW Standard for Quality NRM and for contribution to state wide targets.
Jack brings to this project her ability to consult with a broad range of stakeholders and a comprehensive understanding of the natural resource policy context.
Jack grew up on a family farm in Wellington NSW and has a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science Hons Class 1) from the University of NSW.
Jack is based in Canberra.
Jack is a key contact with regional NRM bodies and works on developing the toolkit.

Angela McDowell
Angela has strong interpersonal skills and experience in communicating with a range of stakeholders including government agencies, landholders, regional community groups and volunteer groups.
Prior to joining Hassall & Associates, Angela worked for a non-profit organisation and for the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF).
Angela has recently worked on the evaluation of the Integrating Farming Systems into Landscapes Program for DPI Victoria, as well as the Dairy Government and Industry Nutrient Strategy (Dairy Gain$) partnership. She has recently assisted with organisation of the 2007 National Young Farmers Forum.
Angela has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Hons Class I) from Sydney University.

Bridget Boreham
Bridget has experience in the areas of program planning, implementation and program management within the agricultural and education sectors. She has worked in both government and non-government sectors, including working in program management with youth and educational stakeholders.
Bridget has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Sydney University.
She is based in Dubbo.

Lyndal Hasselman
Lyndal specialises in program evaluation and review. She recently developed monitoring and evaluation frameworks for the Pathways to Industry EMS Program and the Healthy Soils for the Sustainable Farms program. She brings a broad range of experiences dealing with a variety of clients from her previous employment in customer services. Lyndal has coordinated and conducted face to face interviews and telephone surveys for a number of recent projects.
